A revision of the club bylaws was adopted by the Board of Directors on February 7, after years of stop and start committee work. The original bylaws were adopted in 2002 and remained unchanged since. The recently adopted bylaw revisions address changes that have been approved since that time by the board of director, such as elimination of some special membership classifications in 2004, and the change in membership year in 2012. Ambiguous areas such as the club visitor policy and what constitutes a "member in arrears" vs. a former were clarified. Additions to the bylaws such as a limit to board member consecutive absences did not affect the rank and file, so did not require a vote of the entire club membership. The committee that completed the changes and presented the revision to the Board of Directors was chaired by Jeff Dahl. Thank you Jeff.
Rather than tackle all of the issues that were on the table regarding the bylaws, the committee split process into two phases. This first phase was to bring the document into alignment with policies and practices already in use by the Board and address necessary clarification issues. The second phase will be a more comprehensive examination changes that have been proposed to the bylaws and will likely require a vote of the entire membership.
